A "Dobsonian" is a large reflector telescope that sits in a Dobsonian floor mount. 10", 12", and 16" Meade telescopes are larger than most tripod-mounted scopes. In general, the larger your telescope, the more light it can gather and the clearer the image will be. The Dobsonian floor mount holds your telescope steady as you get fantastic, bright views of faraway nighttime objects. Each of these large Meade reflectors are a great choice if you are looking for an intermediate or advanced scope that functions as a mini observatory. They are considered portable and are easier to set up than they seem. Because of this, Dobs are great for observations out in the field for some of the closest, clearest views you can get of space with an amateur telescope.
